Health & Safety

health & safetyThe effectiveness of an organization's environmental health and safety program depends on how well employees understand the program and how it is implemented and operated. Well-trained employees are more productive, less likely to suffer workplace injury, less likely to violate OSHA, EPA, and other regulations and are able to avoid or prevent health hazards. EPS offers a variety of health and safety program development and training services. EPS develop customized health and safety management programs tailored to meet our client’s needs. Our written programs include policies and procedures, performance checklists, and record keeping forms. EPS also offers comprehensive training services, which include health and safety program development and follow-up services to help minimize workplace injuries and ensure regulatory compliance.

Programs offered by EPS include:

  • Hazard Communication Programs
  • Noise Exposure Assessments
  • Respirator Protection Programs
  • Chemical Hygiene Plans
  • Chemical Sampling Plans
  • Lead Compliance Programs
  • Confined Space Entry Programs
  • Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plans
  • Personal Protective Equipment Programs
  • Health and Safety Compliance Audits

health & safetyIndoor Air Quality Studies
EPS has conducted numerous indoor air quality (IAQ) exposure assessments for a variety of industries. Our professional team will investigate and evaluate worker exposure potential, identify potential sources of exposure, design sampling surveys, characterize the extent of exposure, develop recommendations to minimize or eliminate potential exposure, develop employee training programs and deliver training.

What is Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)?
IAQ is a complex relationship between contaminant sources in a buildings indoor air, engineering controls such as ventilation and the dilution of indoor air contaminants and pollutants with the outside ambient air. The relationship is complicated further when you add variables such as building occupant’s age, general health and heightened sensitivity to a contaminant. When some chemical constituents attain sufficient concentration they can degrade the quality of the indoor air. Sources of indoor air contamination include but are not limited to solid or liquid dust particles (fumes and mist), gases, vapors and mold and fungi. Emissions from contaminant sources and inadequate ventilation control system are often at the root of compromised/poor IAQ

health & safetyWhy Investigate IAQ Issues?
OSHA has set mandatory occupational safety and health standards and requirements to protect workers from health hazards associated with toxic chemicals, biological hazards, and harmful physical agents for which employers must be compliant. EPS can help you identify and alleviate IAQ issues. Eliminate the guesswork and anxiety of an OSHA audit by contacting our professional team to conduct quality site assessments, sampling and exposure monitoring, provide detailed reports with recommendations and assist with building and implementing safety and health monitoring programs.

Conducting the on site IAQ Assessment includes:

  • Review of MSDS and other pertinent documents
  • Facility walkthrough (to assess operations, employee practices and contaminant source evaluation)
  • Assessment of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Sampling strategy using regulatory approved methods
  • On site full shift sampling

health & safetyPost Assessment includes:

  • Evaluation of analytical results, comparison with OSHA, ACGIH and NIOSH limits
  • Report documentation with recommendations
  • Develop Corrective Action Plans (CAP)
  • If the CAP requires outside contracting, EPS will work with client in selecting a contractor and manage the contractor during the work.
  • Employee training
  • Recommendations for other health and safety compliance issues
