Medical Centers & Hospitals

health & safetyIn April 2004, Robert W. Varney, EPA regional administrator stated "Many hospital functions such as laboratories, power plants, and vehicle maintenance facilities, have the potential to cause environmental violations if not properly managed." Since 2004, there have been many enforcement actions taken against hospitals and medical centers nation-wide. Increasingly, hospitals and medical centers are coming under environmental compliance scrutiny by EPA and state regulatory agencies.

Why EPS for your compliance needs

health & safetyEPS has worked with a broad assortment of hospitals and medical centers to assess, develop and enhance compliance programs in all environmental media. EPS’s successes in the medial industry can be attributed largely to a successful formula combining two chief ingredients: (1) a long history of extensive experience in regulatory compliance, and (2) a strong desire to provide services that are tailored to give focused attention to the individual institution’s needs.

What is the EPS approach to compliance?

The EPS approach is to assess the operations, develop the necessary programs, and train selected employees. This is accomplished by:

  • Performing a compliance audit to assess the current compliance status of the institution
  • Prepare plans and procedures to implement the required monitoring and recordkeeping
  • Assist healthcare facilities in submitting semi-annual and annual reports to the state agencies
  • Provide initial and refresher training when needed

EC 3.10 addresses the materials and waste management and emergency response procedures of hazardous gases, vapors, and liquids including those waste steams defined as hazardous by EPA.
